Consuming design is a collaborative activity
People tend to think games are a solitary activity. But the game designer is always there behind the screen. Whenever the game player makes an action, the designer leads them on to the next thing, encourages them on with a reward, and leads them onward. - Hirokazu Yasuhara
I loved this quote from Netflix games documentary High Score which does not just apply to games designers but any designer that designs either physical or digital products.
When we design an experience we should always imagine ourselves next to the user, holding their hand and helping them get to the next stage. The next stage is not always an action in the app/game/product but might simply be the next step to help them achieve what the initially set out to do. A banking app should help you make that transfer as quickly and safely as possible, but then let you leave the app when you are done to get on with your next task.
